Playing football is something that most little boys enjoy and some will continue to play football well into adulthood. Often young boys will join the local football team and enjoy playing football at the weekend or just kick the ball around with their friends on open fields. Football is the most popular sport of all and is enjoyed all over the world. Many football fans have their own favourite team which they support and travel all over the country to watch them play. Football games are televised and when the World Cup game is played millions of people will tune in. Favourite footballers such as David Beckham and Wayne Rooney are not only footballers but have become like pop stars that are idolised by many young people. Today’s footballers earn huge amounts of money and at the end of this season Renaldo who is a Portuguese footballer was transferred from Manchester United to Real Madrid for a record sum of 80 million pounds. The FA cup is a competition between all the Football Clubs in England ending with the final game at Wembley. Champagne is put to cool in a wine cooler (Weinkühlschrank) in readiness for the celebrations afterwards for the soccer stars.

After the game the supporters of both teams usually get as drunk as they possibly can before returning home. Sometimes fights and riots break out between the two conflicting teams and some might end up spending the night either in a police cell or the hospital. Football is very different today to what it was years ago when footballers like Stanley Matthews played football for a pittance compared to what footballers can earn today. Magazines and newspapers are always eager to print some new story regarding a footballer or his wife and magazines such as OK and Hello will pay footballers well to print an exclusive article about them and their gas barbeque (Gasgrill).
