Soccer

Soccer or football as it is known in the United Kingdom is a much talked about topic throughout the football season.  The season generally starts around August the 9th (give or take a few days) and ends in the middle of May.  There are different leagues in the game of football, the highest being the Premiership.  Clubs such as Chelsea, Man United and Tottenham and Liverpool all feature in this league.  Usually at the top of the league table is Man United and Chelsea, this is due to the fact that they have a bigger amount of money than the rest of the teams.  Money is the thing that runs football in this day and age, it is no longer about being the better team, the better teams all have the best player, these players are bought in from around the world for a high price, so without money there is little chance of a club succeeding for very long at the top of the premiership.

In Sheffield there are two football teams, both of which are in the Champions League which is the old Division 1.  The teams are Sheffield United who are based at Bramhall Lane and Sheffield Wednesday, who’s main entrance is the Leppings Lane end of the ground.  Sheffield United play in red and white and are known at the Blades and the red and white wizards and Sheffield Wednesday play in blue and white and are known at the Owls.  It is debatable who is the best team, some would say Sheffield Wednesday others would swear down to it being Sheffield United but you see it all depends on who you support.  Sheffield United did have the chance to go up in to the premier league last year and got right to the play off final, but unfortunately it was not to be.  There are major cups which every country wants to win these being the European Cup and the World cup.

People travel all over the country in order to seen there team play, many people travelling down to a match in used car which have been rented via car leasing.  Other people travel down on coach with a group of people.  The best matches are definitely those which are for a cup, and the FA cup is one which every team in the Premiership and the Champion’s league strive to get, and sometimes but not often it is the most unlikeliest of teams who get the cup.
